Writing: Letters & Sounds

When it comes to writing, new learners are perfectionists. With these alphabets, we can encourage their desire for accuracy before they pick up a pencil (and put holes in the paper erasing their mistakes). These alphabet letter cards give learners all of the key sounds of English, including phonograms. Use these to (1) teach the letter/phonogram sounds and then (2) encourage early, phonetic writing and spelling exploration activities.  

Our movable alphabets take a playful, awe-inspiring approach to writing that is rooted in exploring language and building the ability to intelligently express one’s thoughts. We start with both the single alphabet letters and the additional 17 phonograms required to make all of the key sounds of English.

Use these to help learners “write” their own words, phrases, and stories with letter tiles. This not only prepares them for reading but also helps them organize their thinking and realize that they can make their ideas visible. The roots of self-efficacy and agency are fortified with these alphabet activities.
