Multiplication Equations

These static and dynamic (with carrying) equations encourage independent work with your base ten manipulatives. Use these to create visual equations. Layout the base ten materials on a large table just like the equation shows; take the multiplicand (the top number in the equation) manipulatives out as many times as is shown on the multiplier (the bottom number). Then, slide them all together to create the quotient. Guide the child to write down the equations and answers in their own math journal.

These equation cards are typically used alongside the bank game or stamp game and, as such, each equation includes four digits (units, tens, hundreds, and thousands). For multiplication, each equation has one multiplicand with four digits and one multiplier with one digit (multiplicand x multiplier = product).
