The Complete EC Classroom Collection is Maitri Learning's full Montessori language curriculum for ages 3–6+ in a single purchase: every English card set and book Maitri makes for early childhood, laminated and ready to use in one classroom. It spans the entire Montessori language sequence — vocabulary and oral language, phonological awareness, phonics and decoding, reading fluency, spelling, grammar, and reading comprehension — so a classroom has one coherent, Science of Reading-aligned set instead of assembling materials product by product.
Why a complete, sequenced material set matters for reading
Reading development isn't a single skill — it's the product of many sub-skills built up together over years. Scarborough (2001) modeled this as a "reading rope": strands like vocabulary, background knowledge, and phonological awareness woven together with decoding and print recognition, all needing to strengthen in parallel for skilled reading to emerge. Gough and Tunmer's Simple View of Reading (1986) narrows this to its two pillars: decoding and language comprehension, multiplied together — you need strength in both sides to become a strong reader. Ehri (2014) further showed that children move through predictable phases of word recognition, from pre-alphabetic to fully alphabetic to consolidated, orthographic reading, and that each phase depends on skills built in the one before it.
A classroom working from a complete, sequential set — rather than isolated components — can follow this progression as the research describes it: phonological awareness before phonics, phonics before fluency work, vocabulary and grammar building alongside everything. The Complete EC Classroom Collection is built to support that continuity, giving a classroom every stage of the sequence at once.
