These are the Fine Art Folders they teach you about in Montessori training! The breathtaking art in this collection includes some of the most famous works of art from Europe, the United States, and around the world. Use them for these two essential Montessori activities (and many others):

Conversations at a Picture: Get together and talk about what you see. There are no right or wrong answers because it’s art!
Displaying the Cards: Choose your favorites and display them on little easels throughout the room.

As we guide children towards reading and writing, we want to not only increase their love of language but also give them more opportunities to turn their ideas into words. One way we do this is by talking about art with these Fine Art Display cards.

World Series: Features fine art from each continent with a permanent human population including textile beadwork (North America), painting of pottery (South America), sculpture (Europe), carved mask (Africa), painting (Asia), and drawing (Australia). Use this as your first introduction to art in many of its common expressions.

American Series: Features the artists Tanner, Cassatt, Duncanson, Homer, Hopper, and Whistler.

Europe Series 1: Features the artists Botticelli, Manet, Michelangelo, Raphael, Rembrandt, and Renoir (Note: The Botticelli and Michelangelo show modest nudity.)

Europe Series 2: Features the artists Vermeer, Fragonard, Gauguin, Monet, Velázquez, and Da Vinci

A Note to Teachers

We recommend beginning with our Fine Art Display Cards. Use these larger format cards to explore the details of each piece of art and learn about the year it was made, the artist, and the art's style.

Then, move on to our Fine Art Matching cards. These allow children to work with the artwork they love in a new way.

When the children begin to write, inspire them to write about their favorite piece of art using the movable alphabet, chalkboards, or pencil/paper (whatever is appropriate for that child).

Once the children are reading non-phonetic words, introduce the 3-Part Fine Art Cards. Then, move to the 3-Part Artist Cards where they match the names of the artists with their image.

Finally, after the children succeed with the 3-Part Fine Art cards, introduce the Fine Art 4-Part Cards where they match the artwork, its name, and its artists. This is an activity that truly grows with your children!
