Then, you'll need to start giving them the names of things outside of the classroom. Use Vocabulary Cards (or one set of the photos in the Matching Cards) to give 3-period vocabulary building lessons. Then, show the child how to sort items (eg, sort pets from transportation). Then, use the cards for matching games. Movable Alphabet: After early work with the sandpaper letters, the children will be ready to start writing their own words...this is the critical foundational work for future reading.

Land & Water: In Practical Life, the children will love working with water and the land & water forms. Then, read the Land & Water Definition Book aloud to give children the words that match their hands on sensorial experiences with the trays and cards. Finally, after the children succeed with the Phonetic Reading Cards, use all three parts of the 3-Part Cards for independent reading. |

Definition Books: Once children have worked with the Natural World/Zoology Cards and are comfortable with the basic zoological categories, use these books to deepen their understanding of each class and lay the groundwork for your discussions of evolution. These science reference books can be read alone or in small groups. More than just informative, these books are also a control or master for the definition cards (see below) allowing children to check their own work at all stages of definition work. "Parts of" Photo Cards: These 3-Part Reading Cards free children to explore the external anatomy of the animals and plants they have read about in the Definition Books. Each term is clearly illustrated in the photo. The 3-part format frees the children to work with their new vocabulary by matching the terms to the photos and then using the control card to check their own work.
Definition Cards challenge the children to test their understanding of the vocabulary and its meaning. These cards include complete definitions for each term presented in the 3-Part Cards. The definitions are cut into two- and then three-parts. The children work to match the definition parts with the terms and use the control card to check their own work: a visual, grammatical puzzle that brings sentence analysis to life! |
