Children's Definition Books
At last! Small, clear, and usable science and geography reference books designed to meet the needs of children! These lay-flat full
color booklets put the 3-part cards and definition cards together in book form. Open the book and find the photo on the left-hand
page (where the eye naturally falls first) and the corresponding definition (with the term isolated in red) on the right-hand page. The
cover is simple and uses only lower case letters; this makes it more accessible and inviting for the child who has not yet mastered
upper case symbols (which are used inside). When you open the book, you arrive directly at the content; the copyright and ISBN
information appear only on the outside back cover so it does not distract or discourage emerging readers. It is also sized for
children's hands and the tight spiral binding is specifically used so that the books lay flat when open, allowing children to work with
them freely. The pages are just like our laminated cards; a heavyweight, environmentally-sound paper laminated with a non-toxic 5
mil laminate. The outer corners are rounded to avoid tactile distractions. This design provides a clean, durable, and inviting
sensory interface. The clear, precise, and relevant text insures that these books will be a true and valued reference throughout the
child's school years. Books are approx. 4¼” x 5¼”.

Add on
"Parts of" Photo cards and Definition cards to give children the opportunity to manipulate the photos and words, to interact
with the components of language. Children who are reading can use the books as a control to check their work with the definition
cards. The books can also be read aloud with pre-readers (who love to point out the isolated part in each photo). See also our
economical Book & Card Sets.

So many flowers the children encounter everyday do not follow
the "rules" of the idealized flower seen in textbooks. By teaching
children the parts of a dicot (above) and monocot (here) we give
them the tools to begin to distinguish among flower families. This
day lily vividly isolates the key parts of a monocot including flower,
tepal (a petal-like structure that functions as both a petal and a
sepal), perianth, pistil, stamens, and stem.
